THE RACE COURSE
SWIM: 2.4 Miles
The 2009 IDT at Plymouth Rock swim consists of 4 lengths of approximately .6 miles. The swim leg begins with a water start at the foot of the Harbormasters Dock at The State Boat Ramp.

  • 1st Leg – along inside of the jetty keeping buoys to your right
  • 2nd leg – return along jetty in the opposite direction once again keeping buoys to your right
  • 3rd leg – same as 1st leg
  • 4th and final leg - from turnaround buoy to Mayflower II – swimmers exit at dock and proceed ¼ mile on foot (carpeted with Indoor/Outdoor) to Transition Area at Pilgrim Memorial Park just south of Plymouth Rock.

The harbor is protected by a barrier beach and jetty. This generally results in calm surf. You can expect water temperatures in the mid 60’s. Wetsuits are recommended. Unlike the Pilgrims there are no rocks to navigate as you exit the water.

BIKE: 112 Miles
The 2009 IDT at Plymouth Rock features a new bike route. The route is faster, safer, and less hilly than the 2008 version. Most of the course takes place in scenic Myles Standish State Park. The route is a 4-loop course with a 5.2-mile segment at the beginning that leads you to “The Loop” and the same 5.2-mile segment at the end that leads you back to the transition area. Riders will complete 4 circuits of the 25.4-mile loop and then return to transition. There will be 2 fully stocked aid stations on the “loop” so approximately every 13 miles you can get Gatorade, SmartWater, Hammer Gel, and Cliff Bars, and bananas. There will be an area before and after each aid station where you can throw any empty bottles or other garbage. Please do not litter on the racecourse. A “Special Needs” station will be designated on the loop. There will be a bike mechanic stationed at each aid station as well as a portajohn. The bike course is open to vehicular traffic. Traffic is expected to be light on this holiday weekend. All major intersections and turns will be staffed by police and volunteers.

Helmets are required!

RUN: 26.2 Miles
The 2009 IDT at Plymouth Rock features a brand new mostly flat course. The route consists of 4-loops of a 6.5-mile circuit. You will leave transition and head south on Water Street, bear left on Union Street and enter Stephens Field and reverse direction at Turnaround #1. You will retrace your steps back to transition and then head North on Water ST. At the end of Water Street you will take a right into Nelson Field and then take an immediate left thru the opening into the fence. You will follow North along the fence and take a left at its conclusion onto The Town of Plymouth Bike Path. The Path is a mile long. At its conclusion you will take a right on Hedge Road and then a right into Lighthouse Point. The road in Lighthouse Point is circular and following the road will naturally turn you around (Turnaround #2) and return you to Hedge Road where you will go left. Follow Hedge Road up to Court St (RT 3A), go right on Court St and follow to Cordage Park. Take a right into Cordage Park and and you will do one loop around the pond (keeping the pond on your left) which will naturally turns you around (Turnaround #3). You will take a left on Court St, then a left on Hedge Road, and then a right onto The Town Bike Path and retrace your steps back to transition. There are Aid Stations every mile stocked with Gatorade Endurance Formula, Hammer Gel, Hammer Endurolytes, Cliff Bars, Poland Spring Water, Cola, Bananas, Ice, and Cape Cod Potato Chips. There is no special needs bag on the run. You will have access to the transition area on each of the 4-loops..
